Pangu Team releases Apple TV 4 jailbreak

Following up on their promise, the Pangu team has just released a jailbreak for Apple TV 4. As the Team had warned earlier, this jailbreak is limited to the new Apple TV (fourth generation), and will only support tvOS 9.0, and tvOS 9.0.1.

If your Apple TV is on tvOS 9.1 or later, your best bet is to just go to the Apple Store and look up serial numbers of Apple TVs available for purchase, and make sure you choose one that was manufactured before December 2016. To do so, you can run this simple tool by entering the Serial Number of the device, and it will tell you when it was manufactured. If you see anything before December, then it means it is running a version of tvOS 9.0 or 9.0.1.

The jailbreak provides SSH access without GUI-based features and is mainly aimed at jailbreak developers and security researchers. With that said, this should still be considered as a good news as it opens the door for new modifications and improvements to the Apple TV. For instance, jailbreak developers could provide a way for users to theme the interface of Apple TV apart from enjoying new features.

The Pangu Jailbreak for Apple TV 4 is currently available only for the Mac. You can download it from our Jailbreak tools page.

Few days back, Pangu team had also released the Pangu jailbreak for iOS 9.1. It remains to be seen if they will release a jailbreak for iOS 9.3, now that Apple has released it to the public.

let us know if you were able to successfully jailbreak your Apple TV.
