Nintendo announces Super Mario Run coming to iOS devices exclusively

During Apple’s September event, a huge surprise landed on stage thanks to Nintendo.

Shigeru Miyamoto, the world-renowned Japanese video game designer, producer and creator of the Mario Bros series, announced on stage at Apple’s event today that the Mario Bros series is coming to iOS devices exclusively in the form of a new game, called Super Mario Run. It’s got a one-handed mode with tap-based controls letting you jump, change Mario’s direction and so forth.

It’s an endless runner title, which allows players to change jump height, collect coins, and reach the end of the level before time runs out.

There’s also a new battle mode, called Toad Rally, allowing you to beat other players’ high scores. Of course, coins you collect throughout the game can be used to advance and upgrade your environment.

Super Mario Run will launch with a set price, it won’t be a free-to-play game, and it will launch this holiday season. Pricing and availability will be confirmed at a later date. There will also be Nintendo/Mario stickers in iMessage as well.
