Apple Makes iOS 10.2 Jailbreak More Difficult

While there’s still no public jailbreak for iOS 10 to date, there have been some very convincing demos of personal jailbreaks for it, we have been quite hopeful that it will be released sooner or later.

However, looks like that it will be even more difficult if you install iOS 10.2, which is currently in beta according to well-known hacker Luca Todesco. He has warned users who are interested in jailbreaking iPhones or iPads to avoid upgrading to iOS 10.2 in a series of tweets. Apple seems to have patched several vulnerabilities that could be used to jailbreak iOS 10, which will make jailbreaking iOS 10.2 even more difficult.

iOS 10.2, more secure than ever

Although the details are scarce at this point in time, Todesco has been sharing a slew of tweets that seem to suggest iOS 10.2 has plugged up a ton of exploitable bugs in the mobile operating system.

So if you want to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch then you may want to avoid upgrading to iOS 10.2. The only problem is that you won’t be able to enjoy the new features in iOS 10.2, and will be exposed to the security risks that have been fixed in iOS 10.2.

iOS 10 Jailbreak Status

Pangu team members had showed off a working jailbreak for iOS 10 with a screen-cast of Cydia running on the device when it was in beta at the Mobile Security Conference happening in Shangai in July, but they have remained relatively silent after Apple released iOS 10 to the public.

Todesco had also released several teaser videos and information to show that he had successfully jailbroken iOS 10, however, it is highly unlikely that he will release a jailbreak to the public.

So it is difficult to say if the release of iOS 10 jailbreak is imminent.

iOS 10.2 Release Date

Earlier today Apple released the sixth beta version of iOS 10.2 to developers. So the earliest we expect Apple to release iOS 10.2 to the public is next week.

To Upgrade or Not to Upgrade

Based on the information provided by Todesco, you may want to decide if you want to have the chance to having a jailbreak or you want the new features and security fixes. One of the golden rules of jailbreaking is to stay where you’re and avoid updating your device to the latest iOS software update to improve your chances of jailbreaking your iOS device, assuming that security is not a concern.
