Snap Inc. the company that owns Snapchat, announced yesterday that it’d added new features to its mobile Snapchat app, including limitless snaps as well as a pair of all-new creative tools in the form of the Magic Eraser and Loop features.
First, the new creative tools. There’s a new Magic Eraser (in the Scissor tool) which allows users to remove some items from a snap entirely. As noted by The Verge, a promotional video for the new feature showed the user erasing a soccer ball from a picture, and the snap automatically filled in the vine-covered wall behind it.
Users will also have the ability to create a “virtual pen” out of an emoji, which will let them spell out a word or make a picture just out of an emoji. So if you wanted to put a ton of smiley faces on your snap, you won’t have to do so individually now.
Meanwhile, Snap is also changing the way viewers take in snaps. First, up to this point the snaps sent to users disappeared up to 10 seconds, but now users can choose a “limitless” option, which will let viewers look at the snap for as long as they want. It will still self-destruct, as is the calling card of the service, but only after the viewer leaves the snap.
Additionally, Snap is introducing a new looping feature for video — basically the same thing as an infinite picture. Jut tap on the endless icon when sending a video and it will loop endlessly until the viewer stops watching it. If this sounds like an Instagram Boomerang, that’s probably for good reason.
According to the company:
We’ve all felt the frustration of not being able to fully enjoy a snap—even after replaying it—and we wanted to give you the option of allowing the recipient to enjoy your snap as long as they’d like. After your friend finishes viewing the snap and taps to close it, it will delete as usual.
The new creative tools require Snapchat version 10.8 or later.
