There have been plenty of rumors and leaks surrounding the iPhone SE 2 and its design. However, we are yet to see a credible leak that would confirm the existence of the device. Today, we have another leak from case maker Olixar who have managed to obtain the schematics of the handset from “Chinese factory sources.”
Based on the details they have received, Olixar claims the iPhone SE 2 will have a design similar to that of the iPhone X. This means we are looking at a phone with a notch display at the front and almost no bezels. This is not the first time that rumors of iPhone SE 2 with a bezel-less design and a notch display have surfaced. However, with no concrete leaks, it is recommended that one takes them with a pinch of salt.
Olixar is pretty convinced about the legitimacy of the schematics shared with them as they have even started advertising screen protectors for the iPhone SE 2 based on the dimensions. It says the iPhone SE 2 will look like the iPhone X from the front and even sport a glass back at the rear for wireless charging. However, chassis design will remain the same as that of the existing iPhone SE which means it will have an overall blocky design unlike the iPhone X which features curved edges for improved ergonomics.
The schematics point to the notch on the iPhone SE 2 being around 1.87 cm long. That’s significantly smaller than the notch found on the iPhone X. If true, this could mean that Apple will not include Face ID on the handset. There have been no leaks on this front either and given the low price tag of the handset, there’s little reason to believe that the iPhone SE 2 will come with Face ID. Instead, Apple will use the notch to house the front camera and other relevant sensors.
Unless there’s a more concrete leak surrounding the iPhone SE 2, its best to take these leaks with a pinch of salt. There have been a lot of conflicting reports surrounding the handset so far, with some claiming a launch in late Q1 while others claimed a Q2 launch. With no actual leak of the parts of the handset, it is tough to say if Apple even intends to launch an iPhone SE 2 this year or not.
