We’ve said it before and we will undoubtedly say it time and time again as things moves on; the jailbreak community is an extremely interesting place. As is always the case, it seems that there is often a significant period of non-activity before an explosion takes place and everything starts to come together.
Developer and security researcher Min Zheng, who plies his trade at Alibaba Labs, has once again shown off his technical prowess and proficiency by demonstrating a video showcasing an iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak, complete with Cydia, in action.
That is exactly what appears to have happened again, well sort of anyway, with Min Zheng taking the lead by first of all sharing the fact that he had managed to liberate iOS 11.3.1 from Apple’s walled garden, and now, showing off a video of his jailbreak in action with Cydia running on the device.
On the back of Min Zheng’s original tweet, Electra developer CoolStar decided to get involved in the action, suggesting that device owners should stay on their current firmware if they were currently running a device on iOS 11.2-11.2.6. Everyone in the community took this as a hint that he would be working toward releasing an update to the Electra jailbreak to support those firmware versions.
That may still be the case, and CoolStar may be working on that behind-the-scenes, but it’s Alibaba’s Min Zheng who has drawn first blood by showing off an iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak on video, although like Zheng’s previous endeavors, this may never be made available to public. Zheng previously showed off the same exploit working on iOS 11.3.
Interestingly, Zheng isn’t the first individual to successfully jailbreak iOS 11.3.1 either. The extremely talented security team at Keen Security Labs have already confirmed that they had managed to jailbreak iOS 11.3.1 prior to this video going into the public domain.
As always, we will keep you updated on all things jailbreak as and when they happen. Stay tuned for more.
