President Trump Uses Two iPhones, Here is Why

There has never been quite so much attention lavished on which phone a US President uses as there is with the sitting one, and President Trump’s love of all things Twitter is at the center of that. We all know that Trump loves to take to Twitter to lambast anyone who gets in his way, but we didn’t know that this fondness for social media may ultimately be a security risk. You know, beyond his rants at the leader of a certain North Korean.

Now, according to Politico, the President actually has access to two different iPhones for use during his day. One of them is specifically reserved for phone calls, while the other has his trusty Twitter app installed ready for him to go on his latest tirade.

The phone also has access to the President’s favorite news sites which presumably includes those which agree with him. Both of those iPhones were provided to him by the White House, however that doesn’t mean everything is as secure as it could be. According to the report, aides want the President to swap his Twitter-dedicated iPhone every 30 days or so but Trump refuses. In fact, he is said to have gone as long as five months between switches.

According to the report this comes after former President Obama had his White House phones checked by security officials every 30 days, something which Trump appears to be less keen on.

While aides have urged the President to swap out the Twitter phone on a monthly basis, Trump has resisted their entreaties, telling them it was “too inconvenient,” the same administration official said.

The President has gone as long as five months without having the phone checked by security experts. It is unclear how often Trump’s call-capable phones, which are essentially used as burner phones, are swapped out.

So there we have it. Is Twitter more important than national security or is Trump simply ignoring over zealous security officials with no consequences? We’ll let you make that determination.
