The lock screen is perhaps, right alongside the Home screen, the most visited portion of iOS, or any mobile OS. With each major iteration, and in particular, after the introduction of the Notification Center and the relatively newer Control Center, the lock screen has become more capable, but the jailbreak store and its offerings always find new ways to spruce it up even further.
Akri is a new jailbreak tweak for iOS 9 lets you have as many of your favorite applications accessible from the Lock screen as you want at all times. The tweak adds a simple, custom app launcher to the otherwise unused right side of the lock screen, lets you manually choose the apps for which you want it to add shortcuts to the lock screen, then creates a separate “page” for each to the right of the lock screen.
Configuring what apps are your favorite apps is easy too – you’ll find a new settings panel in your Settings app where you will be able to toggle the tweak on or off on demand, as well as pick the applications you want to set as favorite apps.
To add an app to your favorites list, just tap on the “Select An App” button, choose the applications you want to be able to access from the Lock screen, and then tap on the “Add” button. This will add them to the list where you can see we’ve already added YouTube, Cydia, Messages, and Safari. Removing applications is also simple – just tap on the red removal button, then tap on the red “Delete” button that appears next.
If you have a passcode set on your device, you will want to insert it into the “Passcode” field. When you have a passcode and you leave this field blank, the app shortcuts will be unable to launch the apps, but by putting your passcode in, the apps will be able to launch when you tap on the shortcuts, even when a passcode is set.
After every change you make in this tweak’s settings, you should use the “Respring” option just to ensure that your settings are saved; even if you’re just turning the tweak on or off.
At the lock screen, all you have to do is swipe to the left and tap the icon in the middle of the screen to access the first app in the list, or continue swiping leftwards for the rest. Apps are added from the preferences menu the tweak adds for itself in the Settings app, which also allows you to edit the order in which their shortcuts appear on the lock screen.
In terms of security, there’s nothing to worry about as long as you keep sensitive applications off of the Lock screen. The tweak is made in such a way that when you attempt to close an application launched from the Lock screen, the device will automatically lock so long as you have a passcode set. This means no one can get to your Home screen without knowing your passcode.
Akri is available for download for $1.99 in the BigBoss repo. Let us know what you think about Akri in the comments below!
