Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming iOS 10 update to developers, one week after releasing the iOS 10.1 update and more than a month after launching the iOS 10 operating system. As a major 10.x update, iOS 10.2 will likely bring bug fixes, performance improvements, and perhaps a few new features to iOS 10.
What’s New:
- Video Widget: There is a brand new widget for the stock Videos app. Accessible by swiping right from the lock screen or the Home screen, it will show available TV shows and/or movies in the user’s library. Selecting a piece of content will jump right into it.
- New Wallpapers: There are new wallpapers to choose from within iOS 10.2 beta 1.
- Emoji: Apple has included more emoji, this time pulling from Unicode 9. That means there are new options, including croissant, pancake, owl, fox face, selfie, and many more.
- Emergency Contact Notifications: When activating the Emergency SOS feature within iOS or watchOS, designated emergency contacts will also be notified.
- Camera Preserve Settings: With this feature, users can preserve their last selected camera settings in the stock app, including the ability to preserve Mode, Live Photo, or Filter.
Registered developers can download the new iOS 10.2 beta from the Apple Developer Center or over-the-air with the proper configuration profile installed.
