Instagram Now has 800 Million Monthly Active Users

As reported by CNBC, Instagram has announced that it has more than 800 million active users accessing its platform, and that there are 500 million users active on a daily basis. Stories appears to be the leading cause of Instagram’s rapid growth, indicating that the feature, which launched just over a year ago, as a go-to feature for Instagram’s user base. Since Stories have launched, Instagram’s user numbers have risen by around 160 percent, as noted by The Verge.

On top of that, Stories makes it so that users feel the need to open it up every single day, sometimes more than once a day, so they can keep tabs on their followed content, whether it’s from friends, family members, or celebrities and brands. Of course, Stories itself has to be an interesting feature to use or people would not take the time out of their day to check in, so the built-in feature has apparently done quite a bit of work for Instagram since its debut.

As for Instagram’s main rival, Snapchat, it appears to be holding fast. According to Snap’s own information, Snapchat has “only” 173 million active users on a daily basis as of last month. That’s an increase of only 30 million users from the year before. It isn’t a secret that Snap had its own Stories feature first, though, so Instagram’s other built-in features, and the platform itself, appear to be lending to the fact people are staying within the app longer.

Do you use Instagram Stories? Do you use both Instagram and Snapchat on a daily basis?
