Instagram today announced a major new version of its iPhone app with an all-new colorful icon, moving away from its iconic brown and beige logo that still had an iOS 6-style skeuomorphic design long after many popular developers have since adopted flatter aesthetics.
In addition to the Instagram app itself, all other apps from Instagram — Layout, Boomerang, and Hyperlapse — are also getting a new refreshed icon. The company says that the refreshed colorful icons represent its diverse community.
“Inspired by the previous app icon, the new one represents a simpler camera and the rainbow lives on in gradient form,” explains the company.
The refreshed UI of the app makes it simpler to use and puts more focus on videos and photos. The basic black and white color scheme of the UI also makes it easier to navigate around.
Instagram is already rolling out an update with its redesigned UI and logo for its Android and iOS clients. How do you like Instagram’s face lift?
