The 5.85-inch iPhone X will officially reach shelves in just about three weeks from now. As we gear up for the big launch, the folks at iDrop News have come up with a rendering of a bigger iPhone X, known for now as the “iPhone X Plus”. This is in line with reports which had pegged the launch of an all-OLED iPhone lineup next year. It’s unclear at this point if Apple will call it the iPhone X Plus, however.
The renderings posted by the news site show a larger iPhone X with pretty much the same design and no other differentiating markers on the front and back barring the size. Rumors have suggested that Apple will launch a 6.46-inch OLED iPhone model next year, accompanying the 5.85-inch model.
Apple was expected to launch an all-OLED iPhone lineup this year, but supply issues pulled back Apple’s plans somewhat, resulting in the company launching a standalone OLED iPhone along with two LCD iPhones.
Initial reports suggest that the demand for the iPhone 8 and the 8 Plus have been somewhat dim in anticipation of the iPhone X launch in November. Keeping this in mind, it makes sense for Apple to unveil two new iPhones with OLED panels next year or by 2019, effectively marking the end of the LCD iPhones.
A recent report, however, spoke about Apple’s intentions to source LCD panels from Japan Display for the 2018 iPhone. So we can’t say with certainty if the LCD iPhones will cease to exist next year. It is said that Apple is already in the process of procuring OLED display panels from Samsung Display and other sources ahead of next year’s launch.
