Over the last few weeks, quite a few iOS 12 exploits have been detailed raising hopes of a possible iOS 12 jailbreak. Ian Beer of Google’s Project Zero team has now published another new iOS 12 exploit.
Like with other iOS 12 exploits published recently, this one too is only applicable for iOS 12.1.2 and lower. Apple has fixed this exploit in iOS 12.1.3. Apart from iOS, the exploit is also found in macOS 10.14.2.
Ian Beer’s exploit was used to jailbreak iOS 11 and it is possible that a similar thing plays out here.
While Ian Beer has detailed his exploit, talented developers from the jailbreaking community still have to do the hard work of using the exploit to create an iOS 12 jailbreak. That’s easier said than done, though this exploit from Ian Beer definitely makes things easier and raises hopes of an iOS 12 jailbreak.
While multiple iOS 12 exploits have been detailed, they all have been patched in iOS 12.1.3 by Apple. So if you are looking forward to jailbreaking your iPhone or iPad, downgrade it to iOS 12.1.1 – iOS 12.1.2 right away. Apple is still signing these two iOS releases despite releasing iOS 12.1.3 a week ago. However, the signing window might close any time making it impossible to downgrade if you don’t have the SHSH blobs saved.
